1. A liquid consisting mainly of the lighter and more
volatile hydrocarbons of petroleum or kerosene oil, used
as a solvent and for cleansing soiled fabrics; -- called

petroleum spirit,
petroleum benzine. Varieties or
similar products are gasoline, naphtha, rhigolene,
ligroin, etc.
