Oil of spike (Chem.), a colorless or yellowish aromatic oil
extracted from the European broad-leaved lavender, or
aspic (
Lavendula Spica), used in artist's varnish and in
veterinary medicine. It is often adulterated with oil of
turpentine, which it much resembles.
