Hunting cog (Mach.), a tooth in the larger of two geared wheels which makes its number of teeth prime to the number in the smaller wheel, thus preventing the frequent meeting of the same pairs of teeth. Hunting dog (Zo["o]l.), the hyena dog. Hunting ground, a region or district abounding in game; esp. (pl.), the regions roamed over by the North American Indians in search of game. A large, savage, carnivorous mammal (Felis leopardus). It is of a yellow or fawn color, with rings or roselike clusters of black spots along the back and sides. It is found in Southern Asia and Africa. By some the panther (Felis pardus ) is regarded as a variety of leopard. [1913 Webster] Hunting leopard. See Cheetah.
