domesticated in Lapland. The woodland reindeer or
caribou (
Rangifer caribou) is found in Canada and
Maine (see
Caribou.) The Barren Ground reindeer or
caribou (
Rangifer Gr[oe]nlandicus), of smaller size,
is found on the shores of the Arctic Ocean, in both
hemispheries.
