obtained from alcohol by certain processes of oxidation.

aldehyde, the simplest aldehyde, is more commonly called
formaldehyde,
H-CHO, and acetic aldehyde is now more
commonly called
acetaldehyde. The higher aldehydes may

aldehyde group.
