A perennial plant of the genus F[ae]niculum (F[ae]niculum vulgare
), having very finely divided leaves. It is
cultivated in gardens for the agreeable aromatic flavor of
Smell of sweetest fennel. --Milton.

Azorean fennel, or Sweet fennel, (F[ae]niculum dulce).
